D. Answer the following questions.

1. What is first aid ? What are the three aims of first aid?

Answer : An injured or sick person needs immediate care before a doctor arrives. This immediate help  is known as first aid.

The three aims of first aid are:

It saves the life of an injured person.

It prevents the conditions of victim from getting worse

It keeps the injured person in comfortable position till the doctor or medical help arrives

2. What first aid can be given to a child with bleeding nose?

Answer : press the bleeding side of the nose with the help of thumb and forefinger and breathe through the mouth. This will stop bleeding.

3. How would you help the victim of snake bite?

Answer : The victim to sit at a place and to stay calm. Keep the bitten area lower than the heart. Tai band of cloth tightly just above the bitten area. This slows down the flow of blood towards the heart and saves the life.

4. Mention three causes of fire.

Answer : three causes of fire are :

Carelessness while handling matchsticks, candles, firecrackers, etc.

Accidents while cooking food and leakage of cooking gas causes fire.

Defective electrical appliances also cause fire.

5. How would you extinguish an electric fire ?

Answer : Put out the fire by using send or fire extinguisher.

E. Give reasons.

1. A person bitten by snake should not move

Answer :  A person bitten by snake should not move because if the victim continues to move, the poison can spread in the entire body.

2. Water should not be used to put out petrol fire.

Answer : water should not be used to put out petrol fired because as both petrol and diesel are lighter than water, on adding water, they float on it. This further spread the fire.

3. We should not use dirty and rusty objects.

Answer : We should not use dirty and rusty objects because dirty and rusty objects have many germs on their surface. If our skin gets cut by this objects, germs may enter our body and cause a dangerous disease called tetanus.
